ABOUT THE BREED & SIZES

Breed Characteristics and SizesGolden doodle paw

A Goldendoodle is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. These dogs are known for their intelligence, affectionate nature, and social personalities.

Because Goldendoodles inherit traits from both parent breeds, their appearance, coat, size, energy level, and temperament can vary from one dog to another.

Goldendoodles are commonly available in Mini, Medium, and Standard sizes. The adult size depends on factors such as the Poodle parent, genetics, and breeding lines.

For families looking for a smaller companion, our Mini Goldendoodles page provides more information about this size.

An F1 Goldendoodle is generally a first-generation cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, resulting in approximately 50% Golden Retriever and 50% Poodle ancestry.

An F1B Goldendoodle is typically produced by breeding an F1 Goldendoodle back to a Poodle. As a result, the puppy generally has a higher percentage of Poodle ancestry.

Coat characteristics can differ between individual puppies. Therefore, generation alone should not be used as a guarantee of a particular coat type or shedding level.

No dog can be guaranteed to be completely hypoallergenic. However, some Goldendoodles may have lower-shedding coats because of their Poodle ancestry.

Coat texture and shedding can vary considerably between individual dogs. Consequently, families with allergies should spend time around the specific dog or puppy they are considering before making a decision.

HEALTH & CARE

Puppy Health, Grooming, and Daily Care Golden doodle paw

Goldendoodles generally require consistent coat maintenance. Regular brushing at home helps reduce tangles and matting, while professional grooming is commonly needed every 6 to 8 weeks.

The exact grooming schedule depends on the dog’s coat type, length, lifestyle, and how regularly the coat is brushed.

Goldendoodle Care Guide

Goldendoodles are generally active and intelligent dogs that benefit from daily physical activity and mental stimulation.

Daily walks, interactive games, training exercises, and age-appropriate play can help keep your dog engaged. However, exercise requirements vary according to the dog’s age, size, health, and individual energy level.

Each puppy should leave with appropriate health documentation for its age and stage of development. This may include vaccination records, deworming information, veterinary examination records, and other relevant documentation.

Specific health-testing information for the puppy’s parents should be provided as part of our breeding program information.

Learn more about our approach on the Health Testing page.

ADOPTION & RESERVATION PROCESS

Puppies are generally ready to leave for their new homes at around 8 weeks of age, provided they are appropriately weaned and have received the necessary care for their age.

The exact timing can vary depending on the individual puppy and veterinary or breeder recommendations.

Goldendoodle Care Guide

The first step is to learn about our breeding program and available puppies. Families can then submit a puppy application with information about their household, lifestyle, and preferences.

After receiving an application, we can discuss available puppies and help determine whether a particular puppy is a suitable match.

You can submit a Puppy Application to begin the process.

The puppy package depends on the specific litter and our current program policies. Depending on the puppy’s age and applicable arrangements, documentation may include vaccination records, deworming information, veterinary records, food information, and other puppy-care materials.

Families also receive guidance to help them prepare for their puppy’s transition into a new home.
